I learned more about cameras in this 7 minute video than I did in 2 years of college at a film school.

Thankfully, I studied as a producer, and left this for other people to know.

But still. I know it's hella old, but Props gavin!

It's so odd to think I'm around cameras everyday I never really got what was happening. Sure I understand how it works on paper and I can use one like a champ but really seeing it in action is cool. Great video!

Vids like this make me think that Gavin only pretends to be unintelligent.

This is likely one of the most educational Slo Mo Guys, ever. Was very well made, and seeing the little backstory behind the Canon and reliving some classic moments, was pretty awesome!

That was really cool. I really enjoyed that. I work at a museum and I think I'm going to use this video next time we have our "Photo-obscura" exhibit.

This was very interesting. To think how many things happen inside of the camera that we simple ignore is amazing. This makes me appreciate the people behind the technology more!

i personally am not into cinematography but that was pretty cool and changed my view of gavin as an onscreen personality, i admit i thought he was a complete buffoon but after watching this vid i realise that it is just him playing a character and he actually is quite intelligent definitely more so than myself :)

Just like Jack said, Gavin is one smart guy. I think his dumb moments are just a bunch of ideas all cluttered and coming out as a blob.

I love how Gavin may act like a goof, but is also incredibly knowledgeable regarding his cameras and equipment.(Although Canon? Where is the Nikon love?!)

Gavin, this was absolutely fascinating! I knew much of it, being a bit of a photographer, myself. However, seeing the actual mechanical actions in slo-mo, and hearing your very eloquent explanation of everything, was really cool!

    Well done!

Gav's grasp of photography and film never ceases to amaze me. He's so in tune with his equipment. I kinda wish he had his own little series dedicated to photography.

I think the fact that gavin is recording this in slowmotion makes it more enjoyable but some of the shutters closing and opening you can see it but for a couple seconds

  • GeorgeMudie

WHERES DAN THE MAN!! nah jk also some of those shutter speeds you can see without slo mo but the slomo makes it more enjoyable

Something just occurred to me, because you were filming the camera that you were using to film all the other real time segments, what camera were you using to film the real time segments in this video?

  • BLOXB1T

This was quiet an interesting video. As someone with only rudimentary knowledge on how cameras work, this slow down helps me grasp the the different elements at play when taking a photo. As for the camera, I hope it doesn't give out any time soon!

I really enjoy smart Gavin, though I think if he sounded this smart all the time it wouldn't be as special. Also: had no idea any DSLRs used mechanical shutters, thought that was strictly for film.
