One thing I can say for some certainty as of right now, is that the only similarity between the Branwen siblings is the neither of them are into making and raising a family. Both of them are more focused on fulfilling the greater life with a mission to complete.

Not a bad way to begin a new season following a certain team as they leave home and walk across the continent. Looking forward to learning about these kingdoms from Uncle Qrow.

Is it just me, or is it really difficult to pay attention to these World of Remnant videos when Crow's narrating? He just sounds so disinterested that my attention keeps drifting.

No doubt it's racist, actually it's why I pointed it out.

    • teamMAZE

I was also a bit wth when I heard the name. I mean, it makes sense, but you can't help but wrinkle your nose a bit at how racist the people of Remnant can be.

Then again, what do you really expect from "people," be it people in real life or fictional world? Thumbs up to RT for good sense in naming, though.

Well I think that was the idea behind it, people IRL are racist for no good reasons (And some for a few good ones, very rare though) so it'd be no different in this society, even though the two "factions" have integrated there's still some tension what with the white fang and all. Honestly, not trying to start shit here but it makes me think of the current issues with ISIS and how it effects the entire Muslim faith.  Very similar thing IMO.

Just realized all the continents look like new grimm. The dragon and atlas gryffin are obvious but now that Qrow mentions it would it be unlikely for a squid Grimm? Also one looks like a death stalker. Maybe this isn't a coincidence.

I don't think they actually have kings. Vale appears to be governed by council of some kind and Atlas, for all intent and purposes, is a military dictatorship.

Qrow as a narrator is the greatest thing ever.

Also, random thought - the dark continent without a kingdom. Could it be where Salem's hiding? I get the feeling we'll be seeing more of it soon.

  • mull-hey-mull

So I've been thinking... 80 years ago a war was fought over the idea of art and expression. After the conflict ended a peace was made between the 4 kingdoms and hunter/huntress academies were built to train huntsmen/huntresses to fight the grimm. What we were never told was, who started the war, who was fighting to eradicate expressionism and art, and how the war was ended. What if the continent without a kingdom (the black dragon shaped one) was once a kingdom that started that war but was eventually consumed and destroyed by the grimm, and this lead the other kingdoms to negotiate peace and build the schools? It could also be where Salem resides (over a fallen stronghold of humanity). Just a theory of mine.

    • Moizsh10

Huh, my original impression was that Menagerie was where humans tried to settle the faunus, but failed leaving the continent abandoned. Turns out they are settled there, which makes me think that settlement efforts must have persisted for long enough that some would choose to stay even after the human/faunus conflict.

Was it perhaps Menagerie we saw in Volume 3 where several faunus were watching the tournament outside of a trailer? I thought it could have been Vacuo, where Sun came from.

I don't really get the scale of this world. The continents must be tiny if Vale's territory extends so far along the coast. The size of the area they cover here is almost the size of Europe and there's only 4 cities and 1 island? Vale is seriously empty, and with so much remote territory it's a wonder they manage to keep much contact at all with these few, very isolated cities. There must be more to Vale than this, can anyone fill me in?

    • CitySelby FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

With Remnant being as dangerous as it is, there's safety in numbers. These other coastal towns are undoubtedly much larger than what we would consider normal towns, and remember that we really only ever saw the area of Vale directly around Beacon, save for a few incidents with Torchwick.

And when it comes to wide-area communication, the TCC system was the major component of that, but now that it's down due to Vale's (Beacon Tower) being destroyed, They'll have to go back to the old ways for the longer distances- physical delivery. Which is dangerous and only as reliable as the survival skills of the messengers.

    • Lena27

They tried to expand and use more of their territory but it failed--aka Mountain Glenn. It seems when you go past the natural barriers, it's just too hard to keep the Grimm at bay. But there are probably smaller villages and towns that are too small to mention. I recall Team JNPR initially planning to go help out a small village or something before Team RWBY needed backup in Vol. 2, right?

  • FarmZombie

Ah, this adds a little more clarity. I always figured the kingdoms were small, like city-states. Turns out Vale is four cities and an island. Small, but could be smaller. One thing I always wondered about was that there is only four human kingdoms, but there are more than four human cultures. Just look at JNPR and you see stand-ins for four different cultures right there. Take more characters into account and you have plenty more. Maybe each city, despite being part of the same kingdom, retains its own cultural identity. Ditto small non-kingdom towns. Also confirmed: Menagerie still exists and is Faunus territory.
