Ironwood said a few episodes ago that they had been experimenting with aura, and Qrow had to comment about ripping it out and stuffing it into something else. What if Penny never "generated" her own aura like she said she did last season?D:

  • Kerisato

Hard to believe that there's only two episodes left this season.

I've been suspicious of General Ironwood's arm (right) ever since noticing he always wore that glove. And Qrow's comments lead me to believe that at least part of Ironwood is a machine. If my knowledge of anime is reliable, there's no way he died in that explosion. Memorable characters almost never go out so easy. The scene with all students getting armed up has me excited for the final episodes.

I don't understand the White Fang, at this point. If their goal is a revolution what do they hope to gain by siding with Grim and Cinder who, clearly, wants to destroy the kingdoms? That'd leave nothing for them to take over. And won't the Grim just turn on them too? But I'm stoked for Blake vs Adam.

Couldn't help but notice Emerald sounding as if she actually was questioning the results of their work, and yet Mercury is the one enjoying it all.

Great to see Roman Torchwick back, I was missing his dastardly charm.

4:02 "Leave her ALONE!" Really well delivered line by Lindsay Jones there. Really added more emotional charge to a great scene. :D I felt like from this point to the end of Vol 3 she really stepped up her game.

  • normalguycap

Guy with sword was standing right next to the bird's head. Instead of backing away slowly like an idiot, how about you fucking stab it! Well it was dealt with quick enough.

Penny ain't dead. Probably a bunch of her will appear next season. This show is cliche central so I'm calling that one right now.

They kill millions of grim on a daily basis with no effort. Why now are they somehow a threat? Why is the military who also fight grim somehow completely ineffective against grim?

Looks like the dev team found out a new way to use the camera. They crammed in that whooshy zoom on a pitched angle like it was a new favorite toy.

OMG, this dialogue makes no sense. I swear this may need a Plinketting. "A vagabond has taken one of my ships. The sky is lost to us until..." So one ship and the whole sky is out of your control?

"Look out!" So dive down where you are an easy stationary target at a moderately close distance. Who the fuck wrote this shit?

Why did the robots stop shooting and simply surround them? Why did they do nothing when White and Black unsheathed their fucking weapons? Next we see them, they are cutting down fucking hundreds easy. What the hell happened there? Is this tension? Is this legit drama? Faaaaack no.

Don't even know what happened with Ruby getting on the ship. All that stuff took like 30 seconds. Jesus that was fast.

I flat out forgot about the "White Fang" group because robots and grim were doing everything.

Why did combat colonel have to stand up, weakly put his hand out, and then say "No!"?
Suddenly those weak-ass bullets that couldn't harm a fleshy grim now explode a cockpit?

And apparently amongst all this danger and junk, you felt it was okay to shove in some terrible humor with the dudes on the bear. Did anyone think about that at all? Was it to showcase how non-threatening the grim are?

Consistency people!! Or else you shame monty.

I like the credit sequences though. Showing concept art was a grand choice.

I truly pity James Ironwood. It is glaringly obvious to him that he has played right into the enemy hands and "his heart is in the right place". All his badass fighting capability has done little to stop innocent civilians he is sworn to protect. For a soldier and a huntsman, this must be hell for him. No matter how much a badass that amazing man is, it won't save him from what must be his greatest inner torment. I think it truly is that he could have easily prevented this that will plague him throughout the rest of the series, and it will play a role in the development of character. Qrow will use this fact mercilessly in future debates.... after the Battle of Beacon is finished.

    • kingby1 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

I agree, although i'm not really sure what other course of action would be possible.

    • AcidicWindex

To a man of his rank, mentality and code, it doesn't matter. The fact that he played directly into their hands despite Ozpin and Qrow's warnings means that he is responsible. James Iron wood is the head of the Atlesian military and Huntsman Academy, this happened on his watch, and was made worse by playing into enemy hands. I think he will still fight and function while doing his duty, but this must hurt. His own personal code dictates that he take responsibility and blame himself for failing to listen to Ozpin and Qrow.

    • Wolfly_Loyals

I agree except for one point. I do not think Qrow would be so cruel as to bring it up let alone blame him outright. (especially after having seen the next episode) I agree that James blames himself and I think he will try and do something stupid to atone for his 'sins' to try and redeem himself in everyone's (including his own)

    • AcidicWindex

I admit that I was wrong about Qrow using this to beat up on James. I also agree that James will do something foolish to redeem himself in his own eyes. The only question is how dearly will foolisheness cost them.

    • VeryPlite Medli the Earth Sage

From what I've seen so far, odds are that any further surprise appearances will be from Winter Schnee and/or Raven Branwen to save the day or at least be involved in a few fights and that's frankly what a lot of fans are wanting to see at this point.

But I honestly want to see how they would pull off this guy i.e. Taiyang (Ruby and Yang's father):

    http://rwby.wikia.com/wiki/Taiyang_Xiao_Long

I'm just interested since he is meant to be an eccentric yet also living with the loss of 2 partners if he was said to have shut down completely while trying to brave it out on top of raising the sisters, even if he was over protective for them both.

All this has made me more curious than anything so, voice actor and possible fights from him aside, it would be great to see how he gets involved now if not later.

Albeit I will not be dissapointed if either of the former 2 show up instead/as well, especially in a badass RvB-esque Halo jump or something...fingers crossed!!!

    • Alforbia

Considering they rendered Taiyang with a 2D model, I doubt they're planning to have him fight in the show proper.

Unless he has folding dimensions as his semblance. xP Given the Zwei package that would not be ridiculous.

    • Wolfly_Loyals

I agree we probably won't see Taiyang this volume however both Mercury and Emerald were 2D when we saw them at the end of volume one and they were the opening scene of volume two so I think next volume will be his appearance.

She_Noob087 It wasn't made for kids, when it was released they warned people about the violence and said to watch it first before letting a kid watch it. They made it for older people so they may show things like that but I don't really think they will go too far.

Adam totally killed a guy, it's hard to see but it's a regular soldier and not a robot.

    • Alforbia

HunterxHunter literally showed random people being eaten horribly by monsters in the first half of its first season. It was never for kids.

Pheonix, the warning to parents to watch it before letting their kids watching, a discression notice, was started on Episode 6 of season 3 'Fall', it hasn't been here for the whole show.

As for Civilian deaths and dark-gritty. Given how much of that nonsense is saturating the current anime market, I find RWBY not going that route really refreshing.

Anyone thing that the General has a mechanical arm? And possibly a brain implant? I thought for a bit, the thing on his forehead was a band-aid, but it's silver, not white, or some other likely color.

The way he stopped his momentum as he fought the grim, an made a dent in the ground, then twirled it around with the same arm like it was nothing.

Also, one glove. Just on that insanely strong arm. Love the way he fought!

In Season 2 I think Goodwitch talks to Ironwood in the middle of the night outside, forgot the episode, and he makes a comment "Arm was bothering you again?" I believe. Easily implies he has a robotic arm, plus the glove covering it rasises that chance.

  • daglemj

While i did enjoy this episode, episode 11 and the finale had better be seriously epic. Aside from the dragon in this episode, they barely show any progression. we barely see any combat, what we do see is the transition between combat and combat being cut out. again they avoid letting ruby fight instead having it interrupted by others. while i know rooster teeth works incredibly hard on RWBY and all of there other projects, and i love them for it, this season has just felt kind of lazy. Also it would be nice to know more about ruby's ability to do short range teleportation? is it an ability she has for being the summer maiden?(assuming that she is in fact the summer maiden). hopefully in these last two episodes they will answer a lot of questions.

    • Kestrelscall

Things don't always need combat to be Epic, and we shouldn't need combat to enjoy something.

    • Omegafire18

'Short-range teleportation'? Lol, that's Ruby's Semblance of 'speed', which propels her forward like it always does - it even had the same animation as when she used it in the food fight.

And there's plenty of progression outside of the Dragon: the students defending themselves against the Nevermore; the brief choice between running and staying to fight; Ruby's propelling herself to go after the people piloting the rogue airship (aka Neo and Roman); the students helping defend Beacon; Blake set-up to face Adam; Pyrrha set up to go straight to Ozpin and make her decision on receiving the Fall Maiden's (remaining) power, with Cinder nearby and seeing this

^All of which has made this a tense episode

    • daglemj

@Omegafire18 correct me if i am wrong but they have never stated that ruby's semblance is speed. if that is true than her landing after jumping off the ship makes no sense, speeding up would only make her landing harder. as for progression, yes technically what you said is progression by definition, but it is not STORY progression. we knew they would defend themselves against the grim, we knew they would have the choice to stay or run. from what we have seen, ruby stands no chance against Neo and Roman so that is going nowhere. we knew this would be the point where Pyrrha would go to get the powers, because of basic story telling. we knew cinder was behind all of it so it only makes sense for her to be there. Blake and Adam fighting is progression but it most likely wont solve anything. i never said this episode wasn't tense, just that it lacked story progression.

@Kestrelscall I never said the episode wasn't epic, it was, and i specifically said, in the beginning of my comment that i did in fact enjoy the episode. In my comment i only stated my opinion that this episode(/season) felt lazy. all i was doing was giving my own personal opinion of the show this season. yes it was critical, yes it was negative, and yes i love the hell out of this show. there is no need for negative backlash on peoples personal opinions.

    • Omegafire18

@daglemj But they have actually: Pyrrha stated it back in Vol. 1, that 'Ruby has her Speed, you (Weiss) have your Glyphs - my Semblance is Polarity'.

And actually, all that is story progression, just of a different kind - the fact that they were 'bound' to happen does not change that. And even then, Episode 11 has proven a few things wrong about those assumptions, as while Ruby does have trouble with them, she temporarily takes care of Neo (but not by beating her), while Roman was also taken care of by a different matter - also, Pyrrha goes to get the powers as expected, but things also go wrong, subverting the expectation. And quite a few other shocking things happen as well

^We can assume things will/will not happen, but they're not set in stone until proven one way or the other.
