I've never wanted to join the podcast more than I have right now. I knew almost everything they were talking about.

    SPOILERS:

I was a little disappointed that they didn't mention the theory of how Tyrion Lannister is possibly the Mad King's child and how he is the destined third dragon rider along side Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow. That's one of my favorite theories along side the Jon Targaryen theory.

    • EvanRB

I personally don't like that theory. It throws the entire Tywin/Tyrion dynamic out of the door. I like the fact that Tywin had this flawed son that he wasn't proud of. The whole "I am your son" thing before killing him would lose all meaning if George just wanted to say nah he's a Targ. Granted he MIGHT be a Targ, I just hope George didn't write it that way.

You are not wrong, but it would explain why Tywin hated him so much. His wife probably had him promise before she died to take care of little Tyrion no matter what, so he provide him a home, a title, and money, but he never once was his father. He said the only reason he didn't drown Tyrion as a baby is because he's a Lannister. That would still technically be true, since his mother was Tywin's cousin.

I really enjoyed this. I hope this kind of spoilercast continues.

Though I think a few things were wrong from what I recall.. and I hope I'm recalling correctly.

Arya: Her blndness was a punishment for killing a member of the nights watch.

Brienne: She's still alive. She lured Jaime away in his last chapter. (supposedly, Jaime recognizes her as Brienne, but it could be someone else.)

Ned stark flashback: the 3 nights were kingsguard (which also supports the theory that Jon is Targaryen, why were 3 kingsguard guarding Lyanna instead of the remaining royalty)

I've been rereading the books, and I'm pretty hyped for the next one and the next season of the show. This was cool, and somehow not long enough.

Seeing the attack on Hardhome was super cool. A confirmation that Valyrian steel is dragonsteel is nice. I question some of the variations (why change the cool Dorne stuff and axe Jaime's cool Riverrun stuff?). Why cut Aegon and Quentyn? I remain frustrated that Lady Stoneheart isn't in the show, but I hope she'll be in next season. Two extra years of waiting should make her all the more frightening.

Y'know what I'm super damn curious about? In the fourth and fifth books, there's chapters that take place in Oldtown. It's the home of the Citadel, where maesters forge their chains. Archmaester Marwyn believes the other archmaesters will assassinate Daenerys because she has dragons (implying some sinister puppeteering). Also there's that Faceless Man who might be the same one that Arya freed, discretely cozying up to Sam!

There's a lot of theories about Jon Snow coming back from the dead. He's a pureborn of the Kings of Winter and the dragonriders of Valyria, and a warg besides. His blood must be like a syrup from all that magic. Bran also knows he's dead. Some fans think he'll become one of the red dead (my term) at Melisandre's hand, some think he'll become a white walker. In the books, Jon Snow is not truly gone -- as a warg, he must live his second life in Ghost. Which may offer Bran some shenanigans ways of keeping him alive.

In the show can someone explain to me Little Finger's plan when he left Sansa in Winterfell, cause I'm not understanding him anymore. I've read the books and it's clear that he genuinely loves her, but the show, I don't get his motive anymore.

I think I may cry if or when Davos finds the truth about what happened to Shireen.

  • Gung_Ho_Afro

Thank God Gus was there to steer this relatively well in the right direction.

    Alright, to correct some things....

    1. Burnie, Targaryens do burn. In fact *many* of them have died by fire. Daenery's incident with the birth of the dragons was magic (sacrificing Drogo and Miri Maz Duur), a unique and one-off occurrence which might never happen again. Watch this very quick and incredibly insightful summary of why Dany - and Targs in general - can indeed be harmed by fire.

So in short, this Jon not burning on a pyre theory is a little crackpot. This is where things get a little muddled between show and book but I do agree that Melisandre will resurrect him in some capacity. In the books, there was a prophesy that a warrior would be born "amidst salt and smoke", he would be Azor Ahai. They kinda touched on this briefly in Season 2 when Mel was first introduced but have since steered away from it. Rhaegar knew of this prophesy and at one point believed he was Azor Ahai or "The Prince That was Promised." Later on he determined that it wasn't himself as "his (the Prince that was promised) is the song of ice and fire."

It gets a little complicated here because a lot of people believe Dany is TPTWP as the born "amidst salt and smoke" part kind of applies to her with the whole dragon birth event. Not to mention that she was born on Dragonstone (right next to the sea) in the middle of a humongous storm.

Personally though, I think this applies to Jon more than anyone else, simply because House Targaryen represents Fire, House Stark represents Ice. It sounds way too simplified when I actually think about it that way. Your theory of Jon's true parentage is spot on. His is the song of Ice and Fire. This next vid will explain the theory of Azor Ahai a little better.

    2. To the best of my knowledge there have been no references to Valyrians being able to skinchange into their dragons. Remember, 'warging' is exclusively skinchanging into a wolf but skinchanging is for everything else! From the books, once a dragon accepts a rider, they'll take no other rider until theirs is dead. This bond is the closest I've heard of Valyrians having with their dragons.

Also, note that Wargs/Skinchangers are largely Westerosi, specifically Northern in their origin. In the books all the Stark kids are wargs, meaning they can take over their wolves. Bran, Jon and Arya being the most common.

Long post, sorry! ^^ I really love this series. It just clicks. So many cool elements - intrigue, deception, danger, horror, war (and more importantly its consequences). Amazing.

    Some sidenotes:

    - Gus, absolutely love your attention to detail and yes, you're correct. Ned's fever dreams in Book 1 about the Tower of Joy are also my favourite scenes in the entire series. So much happens in that little snippet that is so vital to past and later events. Plus how expertly written were they? Superb. House of the Undying might be my second favourite scene in the series, the show didn't do it justice. Understandable though, since it did predict things to come like The Red Wedding.

    - The show needs to give us some Stoneheart. Some Frey's need killing! :D

    - Personally, I hope Dany dies or at least doesn't end up on the throne. Gus mentioned Cersei was dumb, Christ, Dany would give her a good run for her money.

    - Sansa will rule the north in the end. Possibly even the Iron Throne by proxy. Frustrating character but she's learning, much faster than she gets credit for.

    • EvanRB

Yup, Yup, and yup. I love everything you wrote. Hit it all on the head. So from one super fan to another thank you. I also love that Tower of Joy dream scene. Definitely has a lot of the most badass quotes in the series.

And now it begins,” said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light.

“No,” Ned said with sadness in his voice. “Now it ends.

Look the series is based losely off of history and the war of the roses. It should end with Daneryes and Jon married to unite the kingdom and with Tyrion as hand. Jamie is going to choke Crisi to death. The wall will fall and Bran will get an ice dragon to control

I am reading GRRM the world of ice and fire, and he also wrote a short children's story called the ice dragon. It's now theorized that the black water in front of the weirwood tree that is always cold is what remains of an ice dragon

  • John41

On a book vs. show note. I wish Wrex and Strong Belwas were in the show. Wrex because I like the idea that the news of Bran and Rickon's survival spreading. (In the books, Wrex (Theon's mute, knife-throwing squire) also survived Winterfell's destruction). Strong Belwas just because he's awesome. Turn Hodor into a badass pit fighter and increase his vocabulary with food and bam. You got Belwas.

I'm surprised Burnie didn't mention the Roose Bolton is a super old and evil skin changing creature theory.

I want Game of Thrones to end with a huge battle between Daenerys and the white walkers. Daenerys is beaten her dragons are killed and she is killed and the show ends with the king of the White Walkers staring at the Iron Throne but not sitting on it. The camera hangs on the throne for a few moments, then on his eyes for a few moments, then cuts to black and role the credits.

    ok ok hold up

    1) Targaryans are not immune to fire. They have an increased resistance but can easily burn; Targs throughout history died by fire and Jon got burnt in season 1 fighting a wight. Dany somehow stole that witch's fire resistance in season 1 without her knowledge, which is why Ugly Witch Lady was so confident she'd sing through her execution.

    2) All Starks are wargs in the books.

    3) The three Targaryans/heads of the dragons are Dany, Jon and...Tyrion. Mad King raped Joanna and made Tyrion but Tywin was never able to prove it. "You're no son of mine."

    • Bluebandit71

      Wow you're really smart.

    • KaneAllard

Dany didn't steal fire resistance. It was a one time thing.

"The birth of Dany's dragons was unique, magical, wonderous, a miracle. She is called The Unburnt because she walked into the flames and lived." That is a quote from George himself.

    • Gung_Ho_Afro

nice to come across another initiated but have to disagree on the "Tyrion Targaryen" thoery, just doesn't sit with me. Too convenient to be something GRRM would sanction.

Okay. Here's my prediction: [Potential Spoiler]

THIS IS UNDER THE PRETENSE THAT JON SNOW IS NOT DEAD. POTENTIAL SPOILERS

The battle of Winterfell was not the so called "Battle in the Snow", that battle will be the Battle of The Wall which will probably take place sometime in late season 6 or early to mid season 7 in which Jon Snow will be confirmed as Azor Ahai (red woman's Jesus figure). During this battle I believe that somehow Drogon (or maybe one of the other dragons, but I would doubt it) shows up to the wall and starts laying waste to the White Walkers only to be revealed later that Drogon was being warged by Bran (or maybe Jon Snow). At some point during the battle The White walker King and Jon Snow face off in combat and just before Jon begins the fight his sword becomes engulfed in flames confirming him as the reincarnation of Azor Ahai. Finally after the battle Jon snow leaves the Night's Watch and fights for the Iron throne and after some circumstances marries Daneryes and takes the Iron throne with her.

There is a death pool at where I work and the person who picks the next five deaths (as of the start of season 5) and the winner gets like $1000. I was too late to get in...

  • KaneAllard

In my opinion Stannis isn't dead. He said the only thing he could have said to Brienne to not have her kill him. Her whole person is honor and duty. So by telling her to "do her duty" has saved him. It is not her duty to kill him, it is not her duty to capture him. It is not honorable to kill him, a wounded man who should properly pay for his wrong doings.

It is her duty to protect Arya and Sansa. Which she is failing to do at that moment in time.

Also on another note, people need to realize that the children of the forest are the real thing to look out for. If bran joins them, they gain his powers. Which would mean they gain the power of the greatest skin changer to ever live, and they can basically enslave mankind. In the books his power is shown a lot more. The fact that he can enter human minds at his age is nothing short of a miracle. Other skin changers go 40+ years (their whole life) without ever being able to achieve it, and hes 15/16.

George RR martin has done this tons in his other books, he's a big Sci-fi writer and hive minded races are one of his favorite things to write about.

Jojen is not dead in the books yet. We last see him in A Dance With Dragons. So unless he's died behind the scenes he's alive.

He knows when he's going to die and has mentioned it a lot. So I think we will see him die first hand.

In the books they address the Knight's Watches' need for valyrian steel and dragon glass to fight the white walkers. Jon Snow sent out letters asking it and talked with Stannis about how there was an obsidian mine at Dragonstone.

I wonder if they're going to deal with that on the show.

The hound is alive in the books, he is seen by brienne of tarth as a gravedigger working for the seven. That's why a popular theory is that there will be a fight similar to the mountain vs Oberyn Martell, only that it will be The Mountain (Cersei) vs The Hound (Margery Tyrell)

1 - BRING BACK SPOILER CAST PLEASE. love this stuff.

2 - Jon Snow's last word in the book is Ghost. After stabby stabby. The thought is maybe because Jon might warg into Ghost he may not lose part of himself when he gets brought back. If Mel brings back Azor Ahai, which she has so far said is Stannis who she now thinks Stannis is dead, it will end up being Jon Snow who is actual Azor Ahai. Maybe.

3 - You didn't talk about Celganebowl and you should if you do this again. Robert "Zombie Gregor" Strong vs Sandor "The Hound" Clegane. It's a sorta silly theory but it has a lot of rooting in very "realistic" story events, including Cersei's trial by combat, the gravedigger and Brienne's storyline, and Ser Robert Strong.

Even if you don't do this again, thank you for doing it this time, I'm so happy. :D

Love this, I think it would be amazing if RT did a weekly spoiler cast next season after each episode talking about what they think. I know other sites overkill that but RT fans would rather watch what RT thought of it I'm sure. Anything to geek out about together.

I've been rereading the first book paying close attention to the Ned chapters and anything to do with Lyanna or mention of Jon's mother. R+L=J is strong with this one. Blue roses is something I didn't pick up on first time, definitely.

Why were the kingsguard not with the queen and prince Viserys? That is all. I wish the kingsguard oath was written out and as clear as the Nights watch oath.

Arya warged out in wolf dreams and there were stories going around Westeros of a she-wolf leading a wolf army. Then again when she saw through cats eyes during her training- cheating because she's supposed to be blind. Can't remember if they hinted at wolf dreams in the show though.

I wouldn't mind if they started up a spoiler cast, but if they transformed the post show into it, that ruins the post show for anyone who doesn't watch whichever show they talk about. Same reason they stopped doing it during the podcast proper.

Jon is the son of a stark and a targaryen. Stark = ice, Targaryen = Fire. Jon is the son of ice and fire. A song of Ice and fire... a song of Jon snow

Based on what that witch told Cersei when she was a kid, Tommen has to be the next to die. The witch said something like "gold would be their crowns - and gold their burial shrouds." So Joffrey held the crown as king and the died. Myrcella held the crown as princess and then was poisoned. That's two down and Tommen already has the crown. It's kind of a bummer since I think he's a sweet boy. I think his death will cause Cersei to lose her shit and end up getting herself killed.
