      Seeing the subject matter and the fact that this video has not been fixed that would lead me to believe like others on this comment thread that it is being removed for content. I would be interested to hear the team talk about censorship, and controversy in relation to internet content and sensitive topics.

    I know points on the matter have been made, but I'm still going to throw my hat in the ring. The problem isn't in the flag, it's in the teachings and mass view if the country. Yes, people now see it as a sign of racism, but that's because they are either ignorant of the war's details, or are just too idiotic to understand. When the slaves were "freed," careful wording made certain that only slaves in the states in rebellion were freed. That still left four slave states in the Union, and there was no authority to make that claim for, what was at the time, a different country. The whole "racism" part of it was all just a political front with nothing to back it up. And hey, it worked. That's why people still see it as a race war to this day. History is written by the victor, and that invariably ends with shit like this.

    First they came for the stars and bars. Then they came for guns. Then they outlaw church. Please don't be a follower. It started under Bush Clinton Bush know Obama. Isn't funny how they all get along and have us fighting over stuff like gay marriage a flag needs to come down. To keep the people in line keep them fighting against each other. Who cares about a flag. What are they really up too.

    I appreciate the cast talking about the flag and what it represents to different people, but I wish they had focused more on the events of Charleston. But I recognize that it's hard to focus on everything in a small amount of time.

    All these comments be getting so butt hurt. Its a podcast not a documentary. Its a bunch of people expressing their opinions. Sometimes you are misinformed on stuff or you phrase something differently, I'm sure if you were talking to Burnie or Gus or any of them in person and you brought up your points they would listen and if they are proven wrong they would admit it. This is NOT the first time they have gotten info wrong and it wont be the last time, they are FULLY aware of this. Stop putting the RT crew on some kind of weird pedestal. I guarantee everyone complaining has quite often quoted inaccuracies in there own conversations when sitting back with friends. I personally commend them for talking about such a touchy topic, most people avoid topics like this because of backlash.

    First: If you believe the Civil War was about state's rights, perhaps you should use your own state flag to show southern pride instead of the confederate flag.

    Second: The confederacy as a country did not care about state's rights. In the middle of the war, governor Vance of North Carolina nearly started an insurrection against the confederacy due to Jefferson Davis continually hacking away at individual state autonomy throughout the war. As North Carolina provided the largest army in the confederacy, this constituted a bit of a problem for the confederacy and may have been a contributing factor to the south losing.

    Third: the flag we think of as the confederate flag is not the Northern Virginia battle flag (that one was square). It's the naval jack. And it was designed by William Porcher Miles, an incredibly ardent supporter of slavery. Further, the actual confederate national flag (the second out of three, and the one that lasted the longest), the "stainless banner," was designed by William Tappan Thompson. His description of his design for the confederate flag specifically mentions it representing the superiority of the white race.

    And finally fourth, on the other side of the issue: There is resentment in the south towards the north even today not because of the war, but because of the period after. Lincoln had a plan to rebuild the south and welcome it back into the union, but he was killed before that plan could be enacted. His replacement, Andrew Johnson, was effectively neutered by the Congress, which turned around and essentially enacted their own plan that was very much based in northern resentment for the south leaving the Union. This led to the south's economy remaining in the shitter for several decades, during which northern capitalists decided to take advantage of the desperation for cheap labor. These are the "carpetbaggers" you may have heard reference to, and they STILL EXIST today. Aerospace and auto manufacturing has exploded in the south in the last decade, and this is entirely because the south still has cheaper labor and fewer labor rights. These companies have come in promising better jobs, not produced said jobs (I have seen many techs leave allegedly high-paying aerospace jobs to go work on chicken farms, because the farms were paying more), and profited from it while putting very little money in due to their moves being subsidized by local governments desperate to create jobs in their failing economies.

    Essentially, things would be a lot better today if it weren't for that asshole John Wilkes Booth. Way to go, dickbag.

    The Confederate flag was the Northern Virginia battle flag and wasn't considered the flag of the Confederacy until after the war.

    The Confederate Flag has never been a sign of racism. The flag itself is still an American flag. With the red, white, and blue all meaning the same, as the current flag, and the stars for the original colonies. The south believed in states' rights. That is why there was a war to begin with. It was the north that made it about slavery.

    Comparing the south to ISIS is completely ridiculous. ISIS is a terrorist group (regime?) that kills those not believing in their way of life. The south never did such a thing. Though there were deaths among slaves, and in no way do i agree with slavery in that manner (I think the Romans kinda did it right with it being an actual punishment), the comparison just isn't there. I stand for the Confederate flag because i had a great grandfather fight for the rebel, and i am proud of my southern heritage and would wave both the Confederate and American flags together.

    If you're interested in the world wars, there is this great channel on youtube dedicated to World War I that goes through and talks about everything that happened that week in the war 100 years ago. The channel is "The Great War" and I encourage everyone to watch it. The scale of everything is just jaw dropping.

    Whenever i encounter a confederate flag i always take them down. Call me a vandal but ive removed them from neighborhood houses. The Confederate flag makes me cringe... especially when attached to pick up trucks. Since this movement started i have seen one every day in my 5 mile commute to work. smiley5.gif

    The Confederate soldiers were still Americans though most people don't realize this or they tend to forget this when comparing them to terrorist. Keep in mind the founding fathers from the revolutionary war were rebels they were not terrorist they were Americans. The confederates were rebels and that does not strip them of being American. It makes no sense to call them terrorist or compare them to ISIS. The issue of the flag is stupid and this shows how much society has become whiny and fallen in the fact we argue over materialistic stuff that offends one side or the other.

    I enjoy the fact that they are trying to talk about something that can be so decisive and can cause heightened tensions, but I am just really concerned that Burnie thinks that the Civil War is comparable to ISIS. I don't think you can even compare the two situations because for the South, they felt that it was their right to choose for slavery and they felt trapped since they valued state rights, and while I do not agree with slavery and the decision to fight to defend their perceived rights, they did and still do have every right to choose to succeed. If they had been successful and the South would have won, then it would have been just like the American Revolution, where Southern history would vilify the Northerners for their unrealistic expectations and unfair situations posed on the "honest, defenseless Southerners".

    Just one thing, you really can't argue the taking down of the confederate flag without consulting the existence of the auschwitz camps and many others that are still around today WHICH still all have the nazi flags and symbols all over. You could actually argue the point that if it offends you don't go there for BOTH locations. Just saying.
