I'm taking math in university, and I haven't done long division in almost a decade. The teacher's like, 'yeah you get a factorial as an answer, but we're not testing to see if you can crunch numbers- we have computers for that.'

The Presonus 16.0.2 (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SL1602) would be perfect for Achievement Hunter. They can use the compressor or limiter, eq, & limiters built in. Records each channel seperately. It's wonderful.

Yeah but not everyone is good at Mathematics. Dyscalculia is the maths equivalent of Dyslexia. And it doesn't matter how much you try to wrap your head around even basic maths, or how they try to teach you, you just can't do it. Someone starts talking to you in terms of numeric figures and your brain turns to mush. It sucks.

    • ReginaVD

What are the chances of 6 people who all host the same thing ALL having Dyscalculia? I can get that maybe one person who works there has it. But surely they wouldn't ask that one person who has Dyscalculia to do the video.

I'm a high school senior and I'm taking college math courses, Math 140 cal/trig I think, and I dont believe I could do long division anymore. Not sure if that says something about the school system or me. It's mainly because we have calculators now. It's not that not being able to do it doesn't matter to us, it's just that we don't have to know how

For long equations of any sort I just break them up in my head and work on the bits separately and add them all up in the end. Obviously this is a very simplified explanation of the process but it's gotten me by. One of the biggest problems with how math is taught is that it is structured so rigidly and there is absolute refusal to let any students explore. Could I do the equation like I did in 3rd grade with the lines and the endless carrying of numbers? No. I'm not stupid, there's just a way I remember a whole lot better to get to the same answer.

The biggest problem with the math bit isn't that people can't remember how to do long division. I frequently forget how exactly to do that, and it takes a bit to get back into it.

The real problem is that it's simple logical math. You shouldn't need to remember a specific method to still be able to get the answer. Being simple logic, it's also perfectly likely you will need to be able to do this in your life. ( The argument that you won't need a bit of math in your life is also a terrible argument. Math is pretty much everywhere, and you will not know exactly what you will need until after you are dead. It's a good thing to have, in case you ever do need it. )

The way I usually do these is to just multiply up. Just start counting by 6s until you get too high for the start of the number. So, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48. Oops, 48 is higher than the 47. That leaves us with 7x6 is 42, times 10 is 420. So, 70. Subtract the 420 from the 473 to get 53 and repeat. This time, 8x6 = 48. So, 78. We have 5 left over, so that's your remainder. 5/6 would be the fraction.

78 and 5/6 using only multiplication and subtraction. You all should know how to do multiplication and subtraction. You'll even notice I didn't include knowing times tables. That method simply counted it out.

Of course, if you have a calculator, use it. There are times where you won't have one handy ( though rare thanks to smartphones ), so you should be able to do this in your head perhaps with help from your hands to help count or keep track of numbers.

If your job doesn't require math, why the fuck would you remember how to do long division?

    • CoffeeNut78 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold PUC the Lunatic

Every job requires math in some form or another. You work at a restaurant you need to know how to make change. (Even if the register does it for you, you should know how in case it breaks). Everyone who gets a pay check should know how to calculate how much they've been paid and know what they need to save to pay bills. You work as a retail store employee and your boss tells you that she or he needs a count on how many brand X or Y shirts are still left after the sale and what % were sold. The fact is I could go on for a llama's age listing thousands of obscure reasons that math is or should be required in some form or another, but suffice to say math is and always will be important to everyone in some form or another. Even if you only learn the basics of counting and addition & subtraction I bet you use math more than you think.

Microsoft's Primary Market is Enterprise Software rather than Home Software they won't be losing a lot of money on Windows 10 and they unify their primary Home OS, also Windows 10 Enterprise will be out 2-3 months later than Windows 10 to fix the Bugs so that would be the best time to upgrade for homer users as they will have fixed all the Issues for their Primary Market.

Gavin's argument of "stuff isn't tested" doesn't really apply to Windows 10. It was in Beta for a year and a half with 5 million people testing it and giving feedback. They worked on updates and repairs right up to release, and so far Windows 10 has been working extremely well for using it day one to day two...
