On The Spot: The Amazing Jock Models – #50 (featuring Tyler Oakley, Korey Kuhl, and Phil Keoghan)

Hey everyone, my name is On The Spot and today we're going to the exotic and foreign land of Los Angeles to visit Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl, and to find out if the natural bond between show hosts truly exists between Phil Keoghan of The Amazing Race and our very own host, Jon Risinger. Spoiler alert: it does and it's magical. Also, apparently the Golden Gus has a fantastic thigh gap. Who knew?

This episode originally aired on February 18, 2016 and is sponsored by The Amazing Race and Marvel Avengers Academy (https://goo.gl/QtIr7I).

Came back to re watch this one, I love it so much! It's a shame that all the comments are a barrage of sexual orientation talk. And that's on the RT site! I can't imagine the YouTube comments- I wouldn't dare look. Tyler and Korey are adorable and hilarious and that is all that needs to be discussed.

So, there you are. I will join Tyler on any adventure.

I read an article recently where a guy who went to a pray the gay away type camp spoke out about how messed up it was (guy was literally tortured) and at the end of the article he talks about why the loud minority of homosexuals are very flamboyant. "it's about showing closeted gay kids that homosexuality isn't automatically a lifetime of misery.

@DrewByrne Yes, I call out ANYONE who can only carry on a conversation about their sexuality. You're upset because you think I'm attacking them. You want that to be true, but it isn't. Their only topic of conversation was their homosexuality. If that's all one can offer, they should be called out. I did take a bit of offense to the statement that "straight sex is weird." Since 97% of the human population considers it normal, it's ignorant to call it weird, even for a joke. Anyone who attempts to demean their opponent with an assumption of age has already lost the argument. I'm older than the host of this show and most of his guests. Now, carry on about your business, and stop trying to bully people because you feel bullied.

Well @DrewByrne, as someone in the alphabet I gotta tell you there are a lot of us who hate this sort of flamboyancy because we feel that it just makes it harder for the rest of us to fit in. We want to be seen as the same, yet all some of us do is reinforce stereotypes by constantly saying to the world "Look at us, we're different because we're gay!"

Personally I'm all OK with just doing whatever makes you feel comfortable and being who you are, but please, don't get offended on our behalf and try to stymie a conversation that we as the alphabet community need to have.

You say that as if straight people don't talk about heteronormative things in casual conversation *all* the time. You just don't notice it because it doesn't stand out to you the way that homosexuality does. Plus, on this show (and many of RT's other shows) homosexuality is referenced in a joking manner by straight people on a regular basis. Why is it not ok for actual homosexuals to make those jokes as well?

    • kauboy FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@DecoyDamsel Whatever circles you're hanging out in that talk about nothing but sex, you need to get out of. It is NOT something that heterosexual people talk about all the time. And, I didn't say that their talking about sex on the show was the problem. You may have assumed that. I simply implied that their expressive nature was far over the top, and unnecessary. A person's defining characteristic should not be their sexuality, no matter what their preference is. If that's all someone has going for them, they need to reassess their life.

    • DecoyDamsel FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

That wasn't what I was referencing at all? Heteronormative doesn't just mean sex, homosexuality doesn't just mean sex. I'm saying you only see their "defining characteristic" as being homosexual because it stands out to you. Straight people behave straight the same way that you see gay people as behaving "too gay". Your perception of them as only having their identity in place of a personality is a problem on *your* part in how you only focus on that part of them.

This is the last I'm going to comment. I tried, but we're just gonna disagree on this.

    • kauboy FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@DecoyDamsel Straight people don't "act straight". I'm not the one with the skewed perspective. Gay people don't even "act" gay. There is no "act" to sexual preference. The characteristics I referenced are simply not common in human life. They are intentionally flamboyant in order to project a certain persona. That persona is not "gay", but simply effeminate. This persona is not solely limited to the gay community, but it does appear more often within that community. It is completely intentional, and since it does not match the gender of the person, it can be off putting. No, I'm not going to get into the gender debate. The level of annoyance is subjective, so we can simply disagree about it. We both have acceptable levels we're willing to deal with in regards to how people present themselves. For example, I can't stand Miles Luna's constant "I speak really loud and intentionally burst out with obscene laughter" act. In small doses, it's fine, but after a while it's just too much. The same goes for this situation. You'll likely disagree because of the nature of the topic, and the desire for this to be different in some way. It really isn't. It's all personal preference, and we don't have to agree.

I expect I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I have nothing against gay people. I have many gay friends. That said, I hate it when people define themselves by being gay. You're sexual preference should never be your identity. I've never seen them outside of the show, but I am basing this off of the fact that I just watched them for 46 minutes and learned nothing about them except for the fact that they are gay. It's not other people doing it, it's them. They wouldn't talk about anything else.

What do I get out of it? I get the chance to voice my opinion. Maybe somebody will read what I posted and it will speak to them. Small chance, I know, but why not?

I feel like the editing team could have blacked out Tyler and Korey and put the words "gay guys that were on 'The Amazing Race' with Burnie" in their place and it wouldn't have made a difference. I was expecting new funny personalities to be introduced to, but instead, I got two people who are only identified by their sexual orientation.

i see where your coming from they did seem to bring up that they were gay a few times but i dont think it impacted the episode or made it worse in any way. i think its good that they have a varying cast to add some variety to the show.

listen buddy, it's a improv game show. it ain't that deep. they're not here to provide you with a fully fleshed out picture of who they are as individuals, they're here to be funny, which they did by pulling from their own personal experiences. like being gay, for example.

and just some advice? never start off your bullshit with 'but i'm not ____ because i have so many ____ friends!!!!'

    • Phatnaru FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

      @boozinos

I know that it doesn't sound good to say that and I know that it's a cliche, but I don't think you should avoid supporting your statement just because it is a cliche. That's like being afraid to speak. It's true that I have a lot of gay friends. I'm not friends with them because they are gay. I'm friends with them, because they are great people. Only one of them, did I find out before several months had passed. These guys I only had to listen for a couple minutes before they said it themselves. And then repeated it, and repeated it, and repeated it...

None of the other guys are like "I bang chicks, I bang chicks, I bang chicks. Penises? DISGUSTING! I bang chicks. Is the show over already?"

    • Korky137 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

You realize Burnie made a joke definition that was literally sticking his fingers in a vagina, right? Since almost every person that has been on OTS is straight, when a chance comes up to make a sex related joke, they reference sex between a man and a woman. Because they're straight. And that's what they relate to. They make straight sex jokes literally every episode. Some of which are pretty fucking graphic.

But go ahead and get pissy when two gay dudes do the same thing with their own sexuality and make gay jokes. Cause it's totally fucking different then what every other person on the show does.

    • Phatnaru FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Korky137 Umm, yeah, I know that they do that. I also knew that someone would bring that up if I said that. They make sex jokes. They don't make straight jokes. Burnie may make a joke about straight sex, but he makes gay jokes all the time too.

That's beside the point anyway. I'm talking about how they did nothing but joke and talk about how they were gay. When you are on camera, you create an image for the audience to see you as. You craft it based on what jokes you make, sideways comments, and how you address people. With other guests, I usually can't tell if they are straight, gay, or bisexual unless they actually address their significant other, and that doesn't even rule out that they could be bi. It doesn't matter with them though, because they are funny, and I don't need to know what their sexual orientation is, because they are funny and make jokes variably for all people. I honestly can't tell you any of the RT cast's orientation, except for the people that are already with people, and, again, that doesn't rule out that they could be bi.

As for Tyler and Korey, though, I knew immediately, because they wouldn't shut up about it.

    • boozinos FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Phatnaru maybe your friends don't make those jokes because they're not comfortable making those jokes. you know, some people aren't comfortable making sex jokes, it just ain't their thing. or maybe they don't make those jokes around you because they're scared you'll start clutching your pearls and swooning because 'gee golly gosh someone just referenced two people of the male persuasion touching dicks i need to sit down.'

like, buddy, i don't know what to tell you. you can defend this however you want. you can say you only have gay friends. you can claim that burnie makes gay jokes too, not just straight jokes, which like lmao no. this show is rampant which heteronormativity. which, like, isn't shocking? most of the guests are straight. but you don't see me complaining after every episode that i had to listen to yet another punchline about a dude and chick banging.

the point is, your comments are still homophobic. and having gay friends doesn't excuse that. homophobia isn't always an outright hatred of gay people. a lot of the times it's actually people like you, tossing in on how uncomfortable it made you to hear the gays taking about going at it again. how, gosh no, you're not homophobic, you'd just really rather they'd stop talking about being gay so much. like don't they have anything else to talk about? like, buddy, guess what? gay people don't have to filter their conversations so as not to upset straight people anymore! it's a christmas miracle!!!!

anyway, i'm done, so like don't even bother typing me up another list of excuses as to how you're a capital A 'ally'. i'm outtie, thnx.

      @boozinos

Typical. You can't come up with a proper counter point to what I'm saying so you spam "homophobic!" over and over again, thinking that will prove your point. OH, and no, this show is not "rampant which heteronormativity" the men make gay jokes all the time and the women make lesbian jokes all the time. Take for example the time that Aaron and Josh ate the candy cane to the point that they kissed, and that is just one moment off the top of my head.
