People forget that David Fincher directed Alien 3, and you know what? I liked Alien 3, to me it's the most underrated alien film. The ending got to me, big time.

i figured out that mr robot was the dad super early on, but it was kinda obvious. i also thought that mr robot was a hallucination or something bc he straight up fucking vanishes in a show about hackers, set in the real, non-magical world. i didnt figure out that elliot was actually mr robot tho. there r also a lot of predictable twists and plot points where i just sit there and think: its gonna happen, no way its not gonna happen, and then it happens

I am actually enjoying this show. :)  As an amateur film geek, I love conversations that discuss and dissect movies and t.v. shows that I enjoy, without the people on the show being elitist assholes about it.  This feels like just chilling out with some friends after watching a good flick and talking about it. :)

As for the concepts of twists and spoilers, and I really don't mind when something is spoiled for me.  If a film is only able to stand up on its own because of its plot twist or big payoff ending, then it wasn't a fully fleshed out film.  I've seen plenty of movies and shows that have been spoiled before hand and still enjoyed them immensely.

That Westworld spoiler was a bit unfair with practically no warning ahead of time considering how recently the show came out. It makes me nervous to watch this show at all. If your attitude to this show is going to be "anything can be spoiled at any time with little to no warning" I simply can't risk watching it, which is a shame because I like the premise of the show. You gave warning about Shyamalan movies at the beginning, which is appreciated, but that's it. If you could at least include spoiler warnings in the description or at the very beginning for RECENT shows/movies you discuss it would be much appreciated. Again, I legitimately do want to watch this show so please take this as constructive criticism and not bashing the show. Thank you.

I think a really amazing modern sequel had to be John Wick: Chapter 2. It really lived up to the first one and did an excellent job of explaining more the assassination underworld!

I enjoyed John Wick 2 but felt it did what a lot of sequels do which is increase the scale too much. The shot at the end where apparently every person in Central Park is an assassin felt a bit much for me. Other than that, thoroughly enjoyable film.

I have to say, I'm the movie idiot that didn't see Unbreakable, and I'm also one of those people that tries not to watch trailer.

The end result being that I walked into Split expecting a version of Room (the one with Brie Larson) with a sympathetic captor, where you as an audience struggle as you watch someone do awful things but feel sympathy or even pity for him, and to really break down the mental well-being of someone who would do something so awful and why. The presence of a psychiatrist and a diagnosed mental disorder with treatment forms in place only encouraged it.

The supernatural turn was, to me, fully unexpected, and the championing of abuse as power made me ill-at-ease at the very least. Having never seen Unbreakable, the end was a blip on the radar that I didn't understand or care about as I struggled to hold in the grossness at the "abuse makes you powerful" message delivered right on the heels of a victim being possibly trailed back into the power of her abuser. If he had cut to that right after the stupid rescue scene or put in a scene where she turned to the officer and said something at least, it would have felt resolved, but as is, it was just very disappointing for a movie I was excited enough to see on opening night.

2016 was actually a pretty good year for horror. Didn't even realize it until just now.

    - Don't Breathe

    - 10 Cloverfield Lane

    - The Conjuring 2

    - Morgan

    - The VVitch

    - Green Room

    - Split

None of these were without some flaws but, compared to 2015's horror options such as The Visit, Krampus, and Crimson Peak, I definitely found myself watching more horror in 2016.

This seems unlikely as I'm pretty sure Tyler isn't the biggest animation fan, and I don't know how much you have seen either, but would you ever think about doing an episode on the incredible animation directors, like Hayao Miyazaki or Satoshi Kon? I think it's really interesting to look at directing choices in animation because there's things you can do in animation that are physically impossible in live action.

    • Jaune_Black_Smudge FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Nah, I don't think they would do it simply because Fan Service would look more suited to animated stuff, especially anime films from the likes of Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon.

I watched Good Will Hunting last night, so I got your joke immediately Tyler. Well done :)

As for twist endings I've guessed, most recently I figured out Arrival. I started freakin out cause I solved the whole thing and all my friends were wondering what was wrong with me lol. I put together the scenes with the daughter's drawing of the bird and the scene where the mom said "if you want science go ask your father," and between those two parts I figured it out :)

David Fincher is a FANTASTIC director (definitely one of my favorites) but a majority of his films are based on books, so the "twists" aren't his idea originally.

    • Consumerism FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Yeah exactly. You can't say "Fincher makes the best twists!" when all his "Twist" movies are based of books that wrote the twist for him.

I can't believe i'm arguing for Shamalalalmama here, but Tyler, here is my argument against Fincher being more of a twist master (no arguing he by far a better director though): Lots of Fincher's movies and twists are from already written material (novels), unlike Shyam's.

A horror film about a person with DID, who presumably went through some serious trauma to get it, and how he’s a kidnapper and probably also a killer?

….because there weren’t enough movies/shows out there demonizing people with DID as it is, of course.

Here’s the thing, though: we aren’t dangerous. we aren’t bad people. We aren’t killers and kidnappers fighting to stop our alters/systemmates from acting out. People with dissociative identity disorder are just typical groups of people who happen to all share a body! We aren’t dangerous to anyone; if anything, most of us tend to be more dangerous to ourselves than anyone else. But the bottom line is: we aren’t out to hurt anyone and we aren’t dangerous. The fact that every single movie and episode about us makes us out to be violent killers and kidnappers is appalling and horrendous and screams stigma.

DID has a serious stigma around it and movies like this are only serving to add to that stigma, to demonize us more, to make more people afraid of us and hate us.

Please, if you can–boycott this movie. Tell them you won’t stand for the demonization of mentally ill people anymore. Tell them that we are not their props or toys to play with and create stigma against. Tell them that just because it doesn’t affect them doesn’t mean it’s all right to hurt others with their bullshit. Listen to systems and people with DID and OSDD who talk about this movie and how it’s bad, and don’t speak over them, but work with us to try and change things so this sort of thing is frowned upon and doesn’t happen so much.
