I've never played Pandemic, but I played another cooperative board game a few years ago called Forbidden Desert. It was strange to be working with others, but I really enjoyed it. Of course I might be a little biased because I came up with a plan that let us win the game.

Pandemic is a bit more intense, more strategic co-op game. But the Forbidden series of games (a friend owns Forbidden Island) are more simplistic in their design, but equally as clever. All co-op games, due to their basic formula (player goes, board goes, shit gets out of control), are always so amazingly well balanced. Every game, win or lose, feels like a nail-biter that could have gone either way. I love them!

Close Congress for blocks up to the capital for indy film?

LA: Permits, unions, regulations, fees, and crappy attitudes towards indy web filmers

"Fail better" is my approach regarding this. Failing and failing is not necessarily good but failing better each time is Undoubtedly the path to success.

So maybe it's due to the fact that I've failed in so many cases, but failure can actually be really positive? Some of my best experiences came about due to not succeeding, like going to college because I didn't pass A-levels.

Even then, failure can be good for entertainment. How enjoyable is it to see someone fuck up but keep going and have a bit of humour about it?

Failure builds resilience and grows you as a person. It can definitely bring positivity if you allow it.

Thanks for the great talk Burnie. And yeah, Gauntlet season 2 is in my top 3 all time favorite rooster teeth shows, literal laughing out loud the whole way through, so glad RT came back from a rough first run and made it spectacular. That's how you do, learn from your mistakes, get up, and give it another try.

Really enjoyed this episode, not sure what I expected but JD looks so much...cooler than you did at a young age Burnie XD

A request for a future vlog, unsure if it has already been done, but one on success would be interesting to see. What you take away from your successes, how you analyze them, how you manage expectations of a future/follow-up project after a success and how you respond to a fear of success if that is ever an issue for you.

I remember getting chemistry sets as a kid and doing 'experiments' with my dad. I say 'experiments' as it was mostly me trying to mix stuff to make an explosion. Closest I got was a hot smoky smelly brown mess that ruined many test tubes.

Every time I see Burnie's vlogs I love the drone footage but am always interested in the laws pertaining to drones.  I know we Canadians have some fairly restrictive laws regarding flying drones, especially in cities.  Has Burnie addressed this in any of his blogs?

    • Osprey9 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

I've done articles on this. In the U.S they just struck down the need for hobbyists to register their drone. Commercial users still do

But can you just openly fly a drone through a city center?

The infographic I linked for Canada limits flying to outside 9 km radius of any airport, heliport, seaplane base or anywhere that aircraft take-off and land...which means a good chunk of every city is off limits

I have to say, these 'motivational' vlogs are really helping me where I am in life right now. I haven't been confident enough to apply to as many jobs as possible because I don't feel ready (which I honestly am with my past work experience) but just coming out of a year long internship after finishing my degree, the concept of a real job is slightly scary. But the failure speech is certainly making me feel better about it despite knowing that I could fail and it helps me grow as a person. Sometimes you just need someone outside of your personal circle to help nudge you along towards what you need to do.

Thanks a lot Burnie! I really appreciate it!

Though I don't know for sure, in my case, when my parents got divorced, because they both lived in the same city, I lived with my Mum for one week, and my Dad for the next. Attended the same school the whole time. So yeah, It's not too far fetched to thing it is quite viable :P

    • burnie FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Yes, joint custody and fortunately a great relationship with my ex. So, when I want to bring the kids to LA for the summer or if I need to disappear for a month to be on The Amazing Race, we can work all that out.

You won't see the kids much in vlogs though as they don't really aspire to be on camera. This was a rare moment when JD was OK with us filming his stuff.

Love the Vlogs and I firmly agree. After all, "Memory is the key." Failure can be the format that makes memories vital. Some of the worst ideas, even with the best intentions have a habit of creating the best memories for a person. Sometimes I can't help but admit even if I didn't even learn much from something. In the end, its life's own poetry. There might not even been a point behind it all. But you never know. Maybe a stupid stumble in the dark was the reason the rock got rolling in the first place.

I really appreciate theses vlogs, we get more time with Burnie to understand his thought process and what's happening , which is really an insight to our own lives were we don't have people to tell us about this kind of thing . It's an eye opener too see it in a differently light because I come from a wee shite hole in Glasgow were it makes you feel everything gets swallowed up and nothing you do matters , I know this might not mean much but rooster teeth has made an impact in life no matter how big or small, thank you .

being a creator of any kind, it's hard to think about failures. but you do have to remember those cliched lines like "keep moving forward", "failures are just a stepping stone to success", and all that rot. after all, "you are always your own worst critic", but "one man's trash is another's treasure". even if you don't like what you've made, there are always going to be those out there that do like it and appreciate that you did make it. in the end, even a failure can become a fond memory and a jumping off point for something bigger. the biggest thing to keep in mind is not to look back on what you consider a failure because they can stagnate your forward progress. keep moving forward, grow as a creator. if it's something you have a passion for, that's all the more reason to do it.

and if all that cliched bullshit doesn't work for you, just go watch an episode of Theater Mode. those movies are bound to make you feel better about your own work.

Seriously Gauntlet Season 2 might be one of the funniest season of anything RT has produced for me. I'm glad you mentioned the Maker thing. I was curious as to why yall haven't even brought up the consideration for season 3.

Also, not to be that guy, but there's something my cousin in the Marines shared that I want to mention. We should stop saying "celebrate" Memorial day. It's a day to remember those who died serving in our country's military. We should be saying have a fun weekend or something to that effect without associating it with Memorial day. I get what you meant, but there's a distinct connotation with the word celebrate that shouldn't be said when talking about Memorial day. Same goes for "Happy Memorial Day (weekend)" or whatever. Just something to think about.

One more thing, in that clip, Geoff did not appear to be having anything resembling a good time during that drunk reading haha

My friends and I are big fans of players vs board kind of games like Pandemic. The expansions for it add a lot of replayability and some additional ways to scale the difficulty if things get too easy.

I can recommend pretty much anything from Paizo or Fantasy Flight Games. Both companies have solid offerings that fit into that "easy to pick up, difficult to master" category.

To go all out on a PvE style experience, pick up Arkham Horror and it's expansions. Between the base game and all of its expansions we had to start playing it on a sheet of plywood just to fit everything.
