Bravo Bioware, fuckin' bravo!
Did it... beat Mass Effect 2 in my first play on the insanity difficulty, did the impossible and got my entire team out alive, and so on. Got all the achievements in one play through, except for 2 minor ones I'll get with my second play through. An amazing sequel, now I guess it's time for the Reapers to hit everything hard in Mass Effect 3. I'm ready for it and can't wait to finish this amazing trilogy off. Such a emotional ride Mass Effect 2 was, one secne almost had me in tears. So to not spoil it for those out there that haven't beaten the game, I'll highlight this next bit in white, so just DON'T HIGHLIGHT IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING SPOILED ABOUT MASS EFFECT 2!
*The part(s) that got me almost in tears were well one, when the reapers invade the normandy and you see the crew being taking away while they scream and fight for their lives from the collectors as you're playing Joker. Such a emotional thing for me, dunno why. But I put alot of time and listing to the crew speak and such, sounds weird I'm sure, but I was attached to the crew, so to see them all screaming and such and not being able to help them, it hit something with me. Second, was the romance scene, I choose to not remain faithful, as some people have been calling the choice on other forums like the MAss Effect form with my love interest in Mass Effect 1, which was Ashley. After the whole thing on Horizon, and she just jumps down my throat, not even trying to understand and just turns her back on my Shepard, it honestly pissed me off. So after hours of getting to know the new crew and one of the old members, Tali, I found out that she does want something more than friendship, which I didn't think was possible, being how anything physical would most likely make her ill from having no immune system from living on the flortila for so long. Anyways, the moment when the love scene happens, it was just quite adorable with her being so nervious. That didn't make me tear up, but I found it to be very cute and just really made me feel something from a game.
Another thing that stuck to, was the ending, just the last bit of "fuck you Illusive Man!", being a Paragon shepard, I don't agree with Cerebus, but I saw working with 'em did make the most sense, but now that the Collectors are beaten, I'm glad they gave me an opition to tell the Illusive Man to piss off. I'm also curious since I didn't remain 'faithful' to ashley, I wonder if she and Liara/kaiden (for those that kept him alive in ME1) will make a return as part members. If they do, and your new love interest, if you have one, will be apart of the squad in Mass Effect 3, I wonder if they'll be any tense moments for choosing to move on and not wait for ashley/kaiden to come back to you. Well, have to see I suppose.* Well there are the reasons that made me feel high emotions during my playthrough in ME2.
I must say, in my own little review. This game has done an amazing job. I was alittle worried that the changes would ruin it, but it is far from the truth. Bioware did the right thing in my eyes with changing the combat, exploration, dialog, just something as simple as the way they present the game with choices. The comabt is amazing first of all, takes just alittle getting use to... especially if you spent the last 24 hours replaying the first mass effect before the launch of the second game a meer day away... then to all the sudden have to forget the old combat system and learn a new one... *cough*... But once you get the hang of it, it's fun, exciting, and very action packed. I loved the first Mass Effect, but after reading the first book before playing ME1, I was slightly disapointed... the combat in the book was so much more fast paced and intense from just the read, ME1 combat just seem to move, shoot, heal... wasn't hetic or intesne as the books protrayed it to be like. But with ME2, I feel like it is everything I was hoping for, challenging and exciting at the same time. Love it.
A HUGE problem with ME1 was the texture misshaps that plauged the game... but thankfully Bioware has fixed this and now cinematic moments aren't bogged down with shitty texture issues and it feels very in the moment and you can get sucked into it. That being said, there are a few texture misshaps here and there, but very minor compared to ME1, so it shouldn't take away from the feel or the special moments in ME2. Also with the add of the Renegade/Paragon interuptions, you need to stay on your toes incase a party memebers trys to shoot someone, or maybe you just feel like punching a really fucking annoying reporter in the damn face as she's talking... <_<.... >_>.... One thing a friend of mine brought up about ME1 was the terrible music, he said everytime he heard the music in ME1 he wanted to slit his wrist... I can happly say they'll be no wrist slitting in ME2, the music is fucking fantastic, from the clubs, to combat, to just random exploration music, it is all right where it should be and plays out amazingly. I'll be buying the soundtrack for sure. ^_^
Then there is of course the voice overs... amazing work on all the actors... Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man was such an amazing pick, I couldn't think of anyone better suited for the job than him. All the preformances were top notch, and just truely amazing. I've grown attach to rendered polygons... kinda sad, but I don't mind. =P
For Mass Effect 2, I have to give it a 10 out of 10. Didn't dissapoint me and I'm looking to finishing this trilogy . Also for news on the next Mass Effect book, the third book is to be due July 27th, 2010. YAY!
Anyways, sorry for such a long read, I don't expect anyone to go through that, I just had all this excitment and had to share all of it as much as possible. But for anyone whom has beat it, please let me know what you think, I'd love to talk about it with other
